Almost another island, the easternmost parish of Deerness is connected to the Orkney Mainland by a narrow neck of land on which there is a single road crossing the sand dunes at Dingieshowe.

Wildlife abounds on the varied coastline - from the sheltered beaches of Newark Bay to the towering cliffs of Mull Head.

The Covenanters' Memorial, Mull Head Reserve, Copinsay, the Brough of Deerness and the Gloup are all a short distance from Deersound Cottage. For more information on Orkney's East Mainland, click here.

 

The cottage is a converted former farm steading, providing accommodation to a high standard, situated on a west facing hillside with excellent sea views of the sheltered waters of Deer Sound and the point of Mirkady, with its rich birdlife and seals. Near to the beaches, the local shop and Post Office (1 mile) the property offers comfortable accommodation to a very high standard and is within easy reach of Orkney's Mainland attractions, ferry terminals (Kirkwall 10 miles, Stromness 24 miles) and airport (7.5 miles). To allow you to make the most of your stay, information on local events, places of interest, restaurants, maps of Orkney are provided.

The property is centrally heated with a fully equipped kitchen/living room and shower room/toilet. Having two bedrooms (one double room, one twin room) the cottage easily sleeps four people.

All bedlinen, towels etc. provided at no extra charge, and tariff includes central heating and electricity. We also provide a 'Welcome Pack' of home bakes, tea etc - courtesy of the Coates family.
